To know the DNS name of the proclaim DB server it should simply be the server name. you can discover this by right clicking “this PC from a file explorer window (on the left column) and selecting properties. This will then bring up a window that will tell you the name of the server that is hosting the proclaim databases under the “computer name, domain and workgroup settings” column. You want the first entry “computer name”.
this can also be located via Control Panel\All Control Panel Items under the “System” icon.
Once you have this information, you will need to then connect to the affected user’s PC.
From there, run the “Ping” command in CMD against the IP address for the server and ensure it brings back hit results, then do the same for the server name.
Once confirmed, navigate to the following location in file explorer: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc – and open the “hosts” file in notepad.
Underneath the last entry un an unhahsed line, enter the IPaddress followed by a single SPACE followed by the server name. For example see below, using 192.168.00.0 as IP and “proclaim-databases” as the server name:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost
192.168.00.0 Proclaim-Databases
Save the changes and exit.
Note: at this point it may inform you that you do not have permissions to make these changes, in which case you will need to copy the hosts file to desktop, make and save changes there, then copy it back into the original location (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) ensure there is only one file named hosts in this location and it is the one you have amended.
You may need to reboot the affected machine to pick up changes.
