Unable to open field selector in Advanced Reports Creator

This can be due to the report being locked, this is typical of any standard reports added to the system by default. You can identify these by the padlock showing over the icon when you browse the reports.

The recommendation is to create a copy of any of these reports should you wish to edit them so the original reports are kept in place.
